Dear Gym Owner/Manager:
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (the US agency charged with tracking and investigating public health trends), over 80% of the US population does not get the recommended amount of physical activity. This situation has greatly contributed to the continuing rise of obesity and chronic disease.
Fortunately, your gym is positioned to help reverse this trend, because your current gym members are among the other 20% of the population that does exercise regularly, and they have proven to be a valuable resource in helping to create a culture of optimal health, especially regarding their sedentary friends and relatives.
Unfortunately, nearly 50% of all gym members are in a state of relapse during any given month. Do you know how many and which ones of your current members are at increased risk of dropping their membership next month or at the end of their term?
Members who quit working out revert quickly back to a sedentary lifestyle and often become even more recalcitrant to regular exercise than before -- “Been there, tried that.”
Gym members who drop their gym membership not only lose-out on all the health benefits of an active lifestyle, they reinforce the aversion of their family and friends from ever joining a gym for themselves.
One of the major goals of OptiHealth Institute is to enhance the role of fitness professionals in combating obesity and chronic disease. Our programs not only increase their number of new gym members, they improve their retention rate of current gym members, as well.
CrossComps is a new nationwide strategy of OptiHealth Institute for growing your gym’s membership and increasing your monthly revenue. This program is based on the latest concepts from the “Exercise Is Medicine Global Initiative” led by the American College of Sports Medicine, so you know that it is evidence-based, safe, and effective.
CrossComps is managed locally through the OptiHealth Network and is guaranteed to increase both the retention of your gym’s current members, as well as improve the referrals for new ones.
CrossComps accomplishes these two important goals by helping your current gym members:
1) Realize the health benefits of their membership at your gym,
2) Commit to a long-term, personal health and fitness plan with your gym, and
3) Encourage their family and friends to visit your gym for a free mini-work-out.
Here's how it works:
You simply introduce CrossComps to your gym members as a fun, ongoing, nationwide fitness competition, which also serves as a fundraiser for a local charity.
The members of your gym who register for your CrossComps compete against themselves, as well as against any other CrossComp Competitors at gyms, schools, churches, and companies, whether they are across town, across the country, or even “across time.”
There are 16 standardized, 5-minute CrossComp fitness tests (mini-work-outs) that competitors repeat every few months, so they can track their own progress. To further motivate their efforts, CrossComp Competitors earn one raffle ticket per test.
The CrossComp Competitors at your gym can earn extra raffle tickets by personally inviting their friends and family to participate in a CrossComp test at your gym for free.
Your gym conducts a local raffle by drawing a winner each month. Most gyms offer their CrossComp Raffle Winners a free month of membership. OptiHealth conducts the national raffle once a year. (Refer to the CrossComp Competitor’s Worksheet for details.)
For your competitors to compete against their friends and family across the country, a personal CrossComp webpage is available for $25/year at www.CrossComps.com, where the competitor’s scores are posted permanently. All proceeds are donated to “Muscles for Billy” in support of families with a physically disabled child. (refer to: www.MusclesForBilly.com for details.)
As you know…
Health and fitness is on the decline. The prevalence of chronic, lifestyle-related diseases, such as: obesity, diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases (heart attacks and strokes) have all drastically increased over the past 40 years -- and mostly due to worsening (less healthy) lifestyles.
This epidemic has continued despite all the scientific research that confirms the critical role that lifestyle plays, and also despite the fact that most people are well aware of the negative impact that a sedentary lifestyle has. The US population is clearly getting fatter and more out of shape, and there really is no excuse for this trend.
Now more than ever before, people have the opportunities to make more healthful food choices and engage in frequent and enjoyable physical activities. You may be surprised to learn that most people do want to improve their lifestyle, but don’t know how. The good news is your gym can help!
CrossComps is a customizable, turn-key program designed to help turn the tide of chronic disease by giving people a fun and educational experience in healthful living. We encourage you to have your gym play a critical role in this effort. Here’s an example of CrossComps at work:
A younger brother living in Atlanta, checks his older brother’s official CrossComp scores who lives in Los Angeles. He discovers that after only 2 years, his older brother’s BMI has dropped from 31.4 to 24.1, his waist circumference has decreased from 42 to 36, and he has improved his 5-min Burpee AMRAP fitness test score from only 44 reps to 57 reps. He also notices that his older brother intends to continue his fitness training in order to reach even healthier goals (in red) over the next 3-months.
The younger brother decides to get tested at a local CrossComp Gym and discovers that he has a BMI of 31, a waist circumference of 41.5, and a 5-minute Burpee AMRAP fitness score of only 43 reps. The younger brother realizes that his older brother, who he ran circles around on the basketball court 5 years ago at their family reunion, is now in far better shape than he is (in blue).
The younger brother’s results are about the same as his brother’s were at his same age. Inspired by his brother’s transformation, he decides to do something about his situation.
He joins his local CrossComp Gym, sets his 3-month and his 1 and 2 year goals (in red), and he starts exercising regularly. Now he can track his progress against his brother’s scores and is motivated to beat his brother’s scores age for age. The local gym has a new member who is committed long-term.
